Alison Christiansen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, 500-hour Kripalu Yoga Instructor and Reiki Master based in Los Angeles, California. Alison earned her master’s degree in social work from Boston College and her yoga certification from Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. With a special interest in therapeutic applications of yoga for mental health, Alison completed her certification as an Advanced Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga through the Integrative Yoga Therapy School. Alison is passionate about incorporating somatic and mindfulness-based approaches into individual and group therapy and is fortunate to have offered these modalities in residential, inpatient, outpatient and community-based settings. Currently, in private practice she specializes in working with individuals impacted by anxiety, trauma and chronic illness. In addition, she teaches therapeutic yoga groups in residential settings around LA.
At age 26, a diagnosis of thyroid cancer became one of her biggest teachers. Yoga and mindfulness have been crucial in her own physical and emotional healing and continue to be foundations of her daily life. She is dedicated to supporting others in their own personal and unique experience with cancer, especially young adults.
In all modalities of work, Alison emphasizes the practice of building compassion for one’s self. Her yoga classes are primarily restorative and gentle with an emphasis on slowing down and making kind choices for oneself. She believes that all beings are whole and complete exactly as they are and that the practice of yoga and mindfulness can bring us back to that remembrance.
