Board Certified Medical Oncologist, Austin Cancer Center

Dr. Angel Augusto Rodriguez is a board certified medical oncologist. He treats all types of cancer and specializes in breast cancer.

Dr. Rodriguez received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. After graduating from UCC School of Medicine in Puerto Rico, he attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology. In 2007, Dr. Rodriguez was only one of four physicians in the nation who were selected for a Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Fellowship funded by Komen for Cure.

Dr. Rodriguez has published extensively on breast cancer research and has presented talks all over the world including Berlin, Canada, Mexico City, and others. For his research he received a Scholar-in-Training award at the 2008 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

Before joining Austin Cancer Center, Dr. Rodriguez practiced in Houston Methodist Cancer Center where he was Director of the Clinical Trials Office and Breast Oncology Tumor Board, and led the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Clinic. He was awarded faculty teacher of the year award by his medical oncology fellows and was lead investigator of multiple clinical trials and hopes to add to Austin Cancer Center’s clinical trial portfolio. While in Houston, he led the Denver Harbor Breast Cancer Clinic, a clinic that provided breast cancer care to uninsured patients, and is looking forward to contributing to the Austin community with his experience in delivering preventative care and treatment for the uninsured.

He was also a member of the Medical Advisory Council of the Komen for the Cure Houston Affiliate and was medical advisor for The Rose, a nonprofit breast cancer organization that provides free screening mammograms to the uninsured, and Reconstruction of a Survivor Organization.

Dr. Rodriguez enjoys spending time with his wife and three young daughters. In his free time, Dr. Rodriguez can be found dancing with his wife on the weekends or coaching his daughter’s softball teams. As a new arrival to Austin, Dr. Rodriguez is looking forward to contributing to the community, exploring the city’s outdoor activities, and enjoying its artistic and culinary scene.
